Frequently asked questions

What if I can't afford the full price?

Northwestern Hillel is committed to welcoming all organizations to utilize our space, regardless of their financial capacity. To inquire about a reduced rate, please call us at 847-467-4455; all inquiries will be kept confidential.

What if I want to rent rooms regularly?

Other arrangements can be made for groups needing rental for more than 1 hour or on a more frequent basis (more than 10x/year). Please contact the Program Associate for rates based upon your individual needs and budget

What's the deal with food?

Hillel is a Jewish organization. Our kitchens and cookware are strictly maintained according to traditional dietary laws, and all food served at official Hillel programs must be prepared in accordance with Jewish law—both dietary laws and those of Shabbat and holidays. Private groups may serve non-kosher food while using tablecloths on all surfaces, although we ask that groups maintain sensitivity to the fact that this is a Jewish space.

Do I have to clean up after my event?

Fiedler Hillel does not provide custodial services for your event/space usage.

  • All trash, compost, and recyclables should be thrown in the proper container.
  • Any other Hillel property or supplies should be cleaned and returned to the proper storage place.
  • Furniture may be left in place.
  • Renters will pay for loss, breakage, and/or other damage to the building, property and its equipment caused by the renter’s use.
  • Decorations or signs should be put up immediately prior to the event and taken down immediately after the event.

What is your alcohol policy?

  • No alcoholic beverages may be served to anyone under 21 years of age on Hillel property.
  • Wine and liquor may be permitted at private events. If served, it should be dispensed in moderation only.
  • Bar service is permissible as long as it is not a cash bar.
  • The tending of the bar is the caterer’s responsibility and Hillel employees cannot tend bar.
  • No person or organization using Hillel facilities may sell liquor by the drink.
  • Further, no person or organization using Hillel facilities may allow guests to bring their own liquor.
  • Student groups must follow Northwestern University’s Alcohol Policies.

Where can I park?

Hillel’s parking lot is available during specific times and dates. If Hillel’s parking lot is not available, Northwestern Hillel staff is available to help you find appropriate parking alternatives. Please contact the Program Associate for more information.

What if I want to cancel?

For paid reservations: Any cancellations make 7 days or less prior to your event are charged 50% of the full rental fee. For non-paid reservations: Please cancel reservations as soon as you are aware of the cancellation. If a group reserves a space and has a “no show,” that group may be restricted from reserving space in the future
Renters agree to follow the Northwestern Hillel Rental Procedures for acquiring space and payment.
